On August 23, 2011, St. Scholastica Monastery, Chicago, IL began its year of celebration for the 150th anniversary of its founding.
Sisters from its founding motherhouse, Mount St. Benedict Monastery, Erie, PA, and its daughterhouse, St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, IL attended the events of the day, which began with a blessing of a memorial plaque placed at the corner of Chicago and Wabash Avenues in downtown Chicago on the site of their first home. This was followed by a press conference with representatives present from the Archdiocese of Chicago, the office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and several Alderman of the City of Chicago.
Commendations were made to the Sisters by all present. The day ended with Vespers and a celebratory dinner at their present monastery on the north side of Chicago.
